“Matthieu’s violin has an exceptionally distinctive and balanced tone, with a special depth in the lower registers. It combines clarity and precision with great tonal warmth and can be wonderfully played in every musical moment, whether as a soloist, in chamber music or in the orchestra.”

“After playing the Guarneri del Gesù ‘Sainton’ in 1744, I knew I wanted a violin with this extraordinary character. Matthieu studied and recreated the instrument so meticulously that his copy preserves the unique voice of the original for me.”
Its sound is perfect for large concert halls, but also vocally and beautifully suited for recordings. Furthermore, it is exceptionally stable during weather changes and when traveling.

“Matthieu’s violin has accompanied me for 20 years and has become an integral part of my musical voice. Its sonic possibilities and its great potential for development have accompanied me on the most important concert stages over all these years.”

Matthieu Devuyst
In his Vienna workshop, Matthieu Devuyst builds handcrafted violins for soloists, orchestra members, and discerning students. Here, instruments are created that combine the highest technical perfection with character and soul.
Growing up in a musical family, Matthieu discovered his passion for violin making at an early age. He completed his training at the renowned violin making school in Mirecourt, France, and at the Newark School of Violin Making in England.
He then worked for eight years as a restorer of important historical master instruments – including violins by Stradivari, Guarneri “del Gesù”, and Guadagnini. This intensive engagement with these time-honored models continues to shape his understanding of sound, his precision, and his unmistakable style.
Since 2010, stringed instruments have been meticulously handcrafted in his workshop in Vienna. From the selection of the tonewood to shaping and varnishing, right through to the fine-tuning of the sound, every step of the process adheres to the highest standards of craftsmanship.
His works are performed by internationally renowned musicians such as Ilya Gringolts, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Bojidara Kouzmanova, and Yossif Ivanov. The intensive exchange with experienced violinists is an important source of inspiration and further development.
This is how instruments with personality, expressiveness and sonic depth are created – designed for musicians who seek a long-term artistic connection to their instrument.
